Hi design-obsessed online friends! Our home is filled with nearly all used furniture, and secondhand collected home decor and everyday items. Buying “used” first as a lifestyle has allowed me to get better value, evolve my style, and reduce waste. When we do inevitably buy things new there is intentionality behind those purchases. Let’s take our time to slowly curate our homes.

I’m going to need a tutorial on how you fixed that snag at 8:00. MAGIC 🪄
What fabrics do you go for?
I absolutely love your chairs! They look great in your space.
My college bf had an apartment and the building had roaches and he took a mattress from his parent’s house. I would get bites and didn’t know what they were. He never got any bumps, he must have bed bug immunity. I finally saw the bed bugs. I can’t believe I stayed with him over there. It was so gross.
I did this with a pair of dsf sofas years ago. They were in a stroge unit and on had damp on it. . That was 15 years ago and there as soild as if new. They cleaned up real nice. Last month i replaced the foam and padding . Very comfortably. All these years. These sofas have been slept on by my then teen sons 3 of them lol. There friends that used to stay . My family. Wow you’re so cracked at this
Thank you for this video! It was fun seeing all the great deals. Take care, Linda 🦋
Beautiful! The teak furniture was such a find! Great shopping. I was going to suggest a pillow to hide the discoloration, but saw that you already did that. You can always have new covers made for them down the line. I loved your fire pit. Everything looks lovely. I agree about using native plants and flowers, especially drought tolerant varieties. I confess that I love formal gardens; however, my gardener (my husband), loves a more natural look. Our backyard was more a wilderness until I pointed out that our very young grandchildren couldn't even go out because it was so wild. He went on a year-long building project. We had two handymen who can do anything. They built huge decks, walkways, a bridge and a screened-in cottage. The cottage was my answer of where to out the exercise equipment. They built tall screens to ensure privacy. We didn't lose any trees, but all the undergrowth was removed. He planted hundreds of native plants and experimented with some flowering bushes. We had a tire swing hung from a hundred-year-old oak, swings from archways on the walkways, and a huge teeter totter in the shape of an airplane with seats and a cockpit. I want to get rid of it as it wasn't very popular with the grands. I'd like to have a firepit there, or maybe a gazebo, lol. I think the building days are over. I can't wait to see what else you do to your garden. Take care, Linda 🦋
Thank you Linda! It does look like the reverse side of the fabric is not faded so my mom is going to help me try to re-sew them on the reverse side. We will see if we can get that to work out. It sounds like you and your husband have done so much to your property to make it a wonderful space! We are enjoying the firepit and recommend it if it’s an option you are considering, so cozy at sunset and when temperatures drop! It sounds like I share both you and your husbands preferences as I’m drawn to both formal and wild gardens 😄 I hope you are having a lovely summer enjoying your outdoor space Linda 😊🌷
@@MelbaMakes Thank you! I envy your ability to sew. Good luck with the project.
Thank you for sharing. Great prices enjoy your week ❤

Lovely! Looks so nice in the living room. On my huge windows I use warm water with vinegar and a drop of dish soap then squeegee it off. Streak free and much less wiping than Windex. I do think the sconce would look good there even though you have to cut the panelling. You can break your preservation rule just one time?! The sconce is in keeping with the style too.
I love your garden it's so green and lush and the different levels and the creek make it very interesting. Good idea to use native plants and cut down on watering. Those RH chairs were such a good find!! I love the wrought iron ones too though. My balcony overlooks the Thames and when I first moved in I made huge (expensive) mistakes with plants. Now I have coastal and drought resistant type plants that tolerate the wind and river mists much better and have saved myself a lot of disappointment ☺
Wow, your view must be incredible! 🤩 I’m trying to balance some trial and error (why I appreciate pots!) with some more well researched plants that I can try more confidently in the future. Glad you have found what works for your environment 😊🙌🏽
I agree on the amber bottles. Makes a nice trio with the mirror frame and the vanity wood.
Good call on the leaded containers! No amount of beauty is worth that risk. You’re so creative and energetic! Your renewal is lovely and fresh looking!
Love love your vision for your space. You always find the best deals. I’m never this lucky with my FB market place finds.
Thank you Carolyn, I’m excited to make and share more progress on the yard with you all! 🪴🌷I’m definitely lucky to be in the Bay Area/California where there’s a lot of good stuff around. It does help when I expand a 2-3 hour drive out of my area for a special piece
So textured and soothing. Runner 🙏
please allow for skipping commercials!!
Hi Keith, I understand ads can be annoying but it is one way I am able to support the creation of these videos. I don’t have control over which type of ads RUclips shows (skippable /not skippable). I hope you understand
@@MelbaMakes oh. sorry about that. I thought it was an option you chose. But anyhow I thought about it and if watching a 30 second clip helps support you bringing more content than its a small price to pay. I do love your content, your ethos, your taste and your design aesthetic. I always look forward to your videos and have binge watched (some, multiple times) your old ones. Thanks for making these videos and sharing with us your home decor journey!
I have so much to catch up on! Great vid as always! LOVED the RH chairs you got recently (in another video). Will be caught up soon!
Jana! It’s so great to hear from you! ❤️🤗 I thought of you during latest outdoor videos. I remember learning about kingsley bate from you, if I remember correctly you were looking for a piece. I hope you found it and are enjoying summer! Such a treat to hear from you 😊
@@MelbaMakes hello! So sweet of you to think of me!! Yes, keeping an eye out for some Kingsley Bate or RH or Arhaus teak! I’ll see some stuff but it isn’t quite right. You’ve taught me to be patient! I have an amazing story to tell, by the way … am going to see if you’re on Instagram and will DM you …
Your enthusiasm is so contagious! Happy summer!
I appreciate your enthusiasm for all things home and deals also Courtney! 🤗
I love RH outdoor furniture. Score❤. I must share my marketplace find. I got a Ethan Allen Freeport end table for $50. They sell for over $1000. on the website. It matches the one that I have. In the Dallas area you can find excellent free outdoor furniture. Especially in the late fall and winter. You are one of the best channels on RUclips.
It’s my favorite to hear what you all find! Congratulations on your find, what a lucky find to match the one you have! I am with you on outdoor shopping the deals secondhand in the late fall/winter!! Thank you for your kind words too, I’m glad you enjoy the channel, thank you for being a part of the community. Please keep sharing your finds 😄❤️
@@MelbaMakes I found the other end table last year for $200..
@@happytx1860 👏🏽so fun you were able to find multiple for a fraction of the price!
Great find! My mother, who lives in the Dallas area, is going to sell some of her furniture. I wasn't sure about the market for higher-end furniture, so your find is encouraging. I told her to be prepared as you don't get a fraction of what you paid for it, but she can't take it to her retirement apartment. I'll be glad if someone who appreciates quality can buy it. Good to know!
@3TXSisters you will get more money selling on marketplace than selling at an estate sale. Good photos, staging, and descriptions will get you top dollar. Also use Google lens to check prices. Best of luck.
More great scores❣️To me lounge chairs are more for by a pool so loving the restoration look. I can not believe how large your lower area is. I think the garden idea and growing your own veggies would be great!!!!! . In long term you may think of installing a pool. Your area gets so hot and that’s a great way to enjoy a retreat in your own home. Evening swims then sitting by that great fire pit how fun ! Your space is so big. I was shocked lol….. my son lives in Chico and they paid 20k for their pool and it’s the best thing they could have done because of the heat. I would take your time, definitely focus on a nice seating area, definitely focus on a small shed especially since you have so many cushions, and I would focus more on a veggie fruit garden as you have so many stunning flowers on the top part. There is only so much you can do in a summer. Little by little. It took me 18 years as a single mother to get my plain builder grade home up graded inside the way I wanted ( now that my dear is a loooong time) new floors, new carpets in just 2 rooms, granite countertops, painting the entire inside ( it has high ceilings. Changing and customizing light fixtures, kitchen cabinets painted - New hardware put on those cabinets. It took forever ❤👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🤗🤗🤗🤗🙋🏻♀️FUN …FUN video. Outside of entire house painted, massive slab of concrete outside, the side yard was my vegetable garden / I miss it- I’m renting it and live with my partner as you know. This past May was 22 years that I purchased my home. If I ever move back I’m putting in a pool as it gets so hot down in the valley.
You have done so much for your family and your home Susan! 👏🏽💪🏽❤️❤️ yes, you are right little by little. Thank you for sharing the pool cost, it’s helpful to hear! I am excited about the idea of a veggie garden 🪴🤗
@@MelbaMakes oh honey you will be able to grow so much in that sunny area also getting few blue berry bushes is great. You know it was such a great feeling when I would bring in a basket of cucumber, tomatoes, green beans, oregano, green onions, mint , lettuce I grew all the lettuces, zucchini and I could make my own salads. Man there is nothing like a fresh salad homegrown just the best. I just want you to know that everything takes time and wanted to use myself as an example. I was so anxious Melba to get all the nice Reno’s, but I had to wait. Your doing an excellent job and I’m sp proud of you. I see your a very responsible young woman and I just love that. God bless you darling ❤️🤍💙🙏🏼🙏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🙋🏻♀️🙋🏻♀️🙋🏻♀️
Wow, incredible that you grew so much for your family! An entire fresh salad from the garden sounds so wonderful! I got some free coffee hemp/jute bags today. Let’s see if I can manage to grow one or two things this season! I appreciate your encouragement and support always Susan ❤️🙏🏽 I hope you are doing okay with the heat, I imagine it’s super hot on your end too!
Wow! $20,000 for a pool is a great price. We're in Florida as well as my younger son's family. They put in a pool 4 years ago and it was $60,000. It wasn't too big and it was only 4 feet deep for the children. I know there's a difference when there are a lot of extras.
I don’t know if this is recommended for the teak furniture, but since it has been and will be exposed to the elements, would furniture oil be something you would consider?
From my research it’s not necessary (I recommend checking out the article “Why Teak Oil Can Be Harmful for Your Teak Furniture” teakanddeck.com). I have never used teak oil but I recently considered a Teak Sealer which is different. Since I’ve had my teak over past few years I personally have never oiled it and never had any issues with it! I personally like the lighter less saturated color as well (and I appreciate the lower maintenance 😆). The above is for teak and different woods have different needs
@@MelbaMakes Thank you for sharing that, Melba. I’ve never had teak but had been considering it for outdoors. Sounds easy care.
@@evanflood7038 very low maintenance! Also, most of the pieces I got secondhand looked kind of funky/dirty but they all cleaned up so well with some elbow grease! As long as it’s not broken it can usually look so good again 🧼😀
Your excitement over your fabulous finds is infectious 😊 Looks beautiful.
Thank you @Champagnemommy! ❤️🤗
Curious if you have ever rented a uhaul truck for a day, and moved items especially non breakables..so much less expensive
Hi Ann, great question! A lot of times people are trying to get rid of things as quickly and as easily as possible so Lugg is usually one of the fastest options especially after factoring in that I’m not always able to lift things myself and may not have someone to help me at the times that something needs to be picked up!
I’m wondering if that discoloration was from sunscreen or suntan oil.
I wonder! I’m just stumped on the darkening not changing at all after all sorts of cleaning attempts! Maybe we will check out RH outlets soon 😉
Not sure if you ever make it to the Midwest but RH has outlet stores.
I think you can guess that I would absolutely try to bring some large cushions with me on the plane 😂 luckily we do have a couple of RH outlets in California so I want to go check what they have soon! 🙂↔️🪑
Well done on the outdoor setting, the hydrangeas are looking beautiful ❤
Thank you! One bush is doing well the other will need to recover this season from too much sun before I put my umbrella. I hope you and family are well🤗

If you haven't already, you should take a day trip to Walnut Creek and visit the Ruth Bancroft Gardens. They have really amazing xeriscaping so could probably give some great climate specific botanical inspiration!
